The pandemic changed our relationship to our health and to science at large. In the past, our access to healthcare was through intermediaries; our doctors were our primary conduits of information. Now, consumers are at the center; we can regularly see data related to every aspect of our health and have more agency over it. And the speed of answers to science’s biggest challenges has been catapulted by collaboration and access. Here are some considerations for health and life sciences:
Science and business
Once focused purely on scientific discovery and advancement, medical research institutions are now becoming global hubs of partnerships and business innovation. Science is using AI, nanotechnology, or other advancements to help the larger scientific community increase accuracy, effectiveness, and results while also imagining new business opportunities for their discoveries. Institutions that once existed apart from the patient now have the opportunity to contextualize their work to impact our healthcare system more directly.
Inspiring new audiences
With the emphasis on access disparities, scientists and research institutions are finding ways to be more inclusive of all communities by surpassing standard accessibility guidelines while also offering relative content, including how-tos or other ways to make their research or innovation accessible to people online.
Safety and data
The era of data science has revolutionized problem-solving, enabling solutions at unprecedented speeds. However, this rapid progress has also raised concerns about the ethics, safety, and provenance of data. In this context, the role of robust security infrastructure and the importance of large connected data sets in shaping technology infrastructure has never been more critical.
AREA 17 has had the honor of working with the most influential health and life science organizations in the world. We are committed to co-creating a world that fosters innovation and well-being. How can leaders today open up to their end users in ways that inspire innovation and collaboration? We would love to discuss how you are approaching these considerations.
